  • Surbiton station is featured in the 2009 film version of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Blood Prince” starring Daniel Radcliffe.
  • The singer-songwriter and guitarist Eric Clapton bought one of his first guitars from a shop in Surbiton called Bells (which has now closed).
  • Surbiton railway station opened in 1838, and was originally named “Kingston-upon-Railway”.

Local Amenities

  • Claremont Gardens provides a peaceful area for contemplation and relaxation and is located in a handy location very close to the high street.
  • On the third Saturday morning of every month you’ll find the Farmer’s Market on Maple Road. Popular and packed with both tourists and locals, there are loads of very tasty, locally produced items to choose from, such as bread, cheese, cakes, pasties, meat and chutneys.
  • Surbiton is home to a couple of art galleries: Thames Place on Brighton Road and the Art House in Victoria Road. 

Education 

The main state secondary school in Surbiton is Southborough High School with independent secondary schools including Surbiton High School and Shrewsbury House School. For younger children, there’s Surbiton High Girls’ Preparatory School and Surbiton High Boys’ Preparatory School (both independent).
