Just five miles west of London’s busy centre, Shepherd’s Bush is a vibrant, thriving suburban community made up of a range of ages and ethnicities. It is located between Hammersmith to the south and Chiswick to the west, with Notting Hill and Holland Park to the east. Shepherd’s Bush, along with its neighbour White City, are currently enjoying substantial regeneration thanks to an £8 billion development. The project will expand the already hugely popular Westfield Shopping Centre to include more than 70 new shops and restaurants and a new John Lewis flagship department store. Additionally, the plan is to add at least 1,500 new homes as part of the White City Living development. Over on Wood Lane also stands the iconic former BBC Television Centre, architecturally famous for its Sixties circular “doughnut” shaped building which is also being regenerated into homes and amenities by developer Stanhope.

  • It is thought that the name “Shepherd’s Bush” originally came about as it was once a resting place for shepherds on their way to London’s Smithfield Market.
  • The Beatles recorded their first-ever BBC Television broadcast in Shepherd’s Bush on 13thApril 1963 at Lime Grove Studios.
  • Shepherd’s Bush is served by no less than five London Underground stations: Shepherd’s Bush station, Shepherd’s Bush Market, Goldhawk Road station, White City and Wood Lane.
